Visiting Genteng Island in Thousand Islands Regency, Jakarta
In Thousand Islands Regency, there is an island called Genteng. It is actually a small isle. The size is only 6 hectares. Despite the size, the island consists of a cottage and it becomes a recommended place for relaxation. The thing is Genteng is considered a private island. Still, it becomes a destination for a gathering and tour group. It is also possible to conduct either a wedding or private party there. Thanks to its exotic seawater and stunning sand. In a nutshell, it has an outstanding quality in terms of privacy and beauty.
The Nuance
The first impression is its remote nuance. Despite its small size, the island features numerous types of beauty. For instance, there is a paved pier. It has no fence, but it seems sturdy. From here, tourists can sit and enjoy the sea scenery. Near to it, there is a wooden structure. It is the keeper’s den. In the beach, you may encounter soft and comfortable sand. In the back, there are some benches for tourists. Such location is covered by dense trees, so you can feel the refreshing mood.
Exploring Genteng Island
The most recommended activity in Genteng Island is snorkeling. One thing, there are no local services. That means you should carry your own gears. A life jacket is a must. The other important items are fins and goggles. It requires swimming skills, as well. Once you are in the water, you are able to witness beautiful fishes and coral reefs. Make sure not to ruin the reefs, though. If you don’t like snorkeling, you can do other water sports. For example, there is a banana boat. Your kids would love it, for sure.
Genteng Island is a private land. Thus, you should not expect villagers. In terms of facilities, you can find many of them. The best one is a formation of cottages. At night, the guests are allowed to sing wholeheartedly in the karaoke room. Isn’t that great? Unfortunately, Genteng is not as popular as Tidung or other islands in “Kepulauan Seribu”. It lacks in marketing and exposure, after all. Not to mention it is a private island. It belongs to a grandson of former vice president of Indonesia. In the past, no tourists were allowed to visit it.
Even though Genteng Island has been available for public these days, it can’t accommodate too many people. The maximum number of visitors is 48 people. Most of them come to Genteng for a special event like a wedding ceremony or a corporation meeting. Regular tourists are allowed to come there, too.

How to Get There
If you come from Jakarta, you can take a traditional motor boat in Muara Kamal. It takes much time, indeed. As an alternative, you can depart from Tanjung Kait in Tangerang. There is another way to reach Genting Island. It is from Marina Ancol. From here, you can use a speedboat. The trip is faster that way. Though, the price is more expensive than an old-fashioned motorboat. Are you ready to fund it?
